About Dock 6 Collection

Dock 6 Collection is a Chicago-based furniture line designed and produced by Seth Deysach (Lagomorph Design), Andrew Kephart (-ism Furniture), Carson Maddox (Carson Maddox Studios), Zak Rose (zakrose), and Dan Sullivan (Navillus Woodworks): principal members of Dock 6 Collective, one of Chicago’s premier design and custom fabrication studios.

Each piece is designed to be timeless and heirloom-quality, thoughtfully refined through a process of group critique. Weekly workshops help the designers pare down their individual work into designs that work together as one striking and visually cohesive collection.

The inaugural collection, which launched in Fall 2020 with pop-ups at Green City Market, Logan Square’s Comfort Station, and the Montauk Sofa West Loop showroom has been featured in Business of Home, InsideHook, and Modern Luxury Interiors.

The Designers

Navillus Woodworks
Navillus Woodworks was founded in 2005 by Dan Sullivan, a Chicago transplant by way of Maine and Minnesota. Combining years of experience in the trades and arts, Sullivan collaborates on work for museums, institutions, art galleries as well as architects, designers, and homeowners. Navillus often collaborates with Sullivan’s wife, conceptual artist Edra Soto, on sculptural pieces that have been shown in venues including the MCA Chicago and Perez Art Museum Miami.

Lagomorph Design
For more than 15 years, Lagomorph Design has served Chicago's most discerning residential clients, interior designers, and architects. Led by Seth Deysach, Lagomorph produces custom furniture, cabinetry, and millwork that combines modern day sophistication with the quality of old work craftsmanship. Deysach is inspired by modern lifestyles, luxurious wood veneers, clean lines, perfection of style and incredible textures and finishes punctuated by an organic mix of materials.

Carson Maddox Studio
Drawing inspiration from Mid-Century Modern design, designer Carson Maddox creates stunning handcrafted works of art. Maddox is not only fascinated by the lines from mid-century design, but also is intrigued by how the designs incorporate modern materials and processes used in industrial applications.

-ism Furniture
-ism Furniture is helmed by Andrew Kephart. Andrew’s passion for making things was honed in college where he received a degree in industrial design. With the goal of weaving modern technology with traditional craft, -ism  highlights the joining of dissimilar materials in a symbiotic manner where one element can’t exist without the other.

zakrose
zakrose is a creatively-driven design/build company, specializing in furniture fabrication and custom millwork. As a team, we are agile and constantly inspired by the open collaboration we have with residential clients, architects, and interior designers. Principal Zak Rose designs in an approachable style, creating pieces with light forms, clean lines, beautiful materials, and functional considerations. Zak is a founding member of the Dock 6 Collective and was a former owner of the San Francisco-based worker-owned cooperative Woodshanti.

Business of Home

This Chicago makers collective just launched a furniture line—and with it, a new business.

Becoming a successful custom furniture maker doesn’t just happen. Not only does the craft require experience and a material instinct, but the logistics of owning the proper tools and securing sufficient workspace can be a serious barrier to entry. Six Chicago furniture makers found a way to circumnavigate that challenge when, in 2009, the shared workshop space that they individually leased saw a rent increase. Rather than breaking off to find their own replacement spaces, the now-friendly brands joined forces to seek another, larger space—this time together by choice rather than happenstance. In doing so, they solidified the Dock 6 Collective, which includes Dan Sullivan of Navillus Woodworks, Seth Deysach of Lagomorph Design, Andrew Kephart of -ism Furniture, Carson Maddox of Carson Maddox Studios, Scott A. Patterson of SAP Design, and Zak Rose of zakrose… Read more at Business of Home.
